Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)  

We provide microarray based PGS testing.  PGS (also known as preimplantation aneuploidy screening) involves checking the chromosomes of embryos conceived by IVF or ICSI for common abnormalities. Chromosomal abnormalities are a major cause of the failure of embryos to implant, and of miscarriages. They can also result in fetuses with abnormal number of chromosomes such as trisomy 21 (Down syndrome).

Clinical indication for PGS

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Four to eight cell trophectoderm biopsies will be performed on day 5 or day 6 of embryo development.  Microarray analysis will be conducted using amplified DNA samples.  On average, 4-6 embryos will be analyzed for each patient.

PLATFORM FOR PGS ARRAY ANALYSIS

We perform array CGH using an Agilent platform.  

Benefits of PGS testing

PGS will greatly increase the odds of selecting chromosomally normal embryos and allows your physician to transfer single embryo to implant.  Transfer of a single normal embryo improves the odds of implantation and significantly decreases the risk of having twin or triplet pregnancies.
